I · What it is

More intentional than a co-op.More flexible than a school.

King Alfred Academy is a virtual Christian academy rooted in the great books of the Western tradition. No curriculum is required. Parents lead. The Academy supports. Every family belongs to a House — a local in-person fellowship of 2–12 families who know each other’s children by name.

The Family is the School

No campus. No mandated curriculum. Parents choose what and how to teach. The Academy provides scope, sequence, and trusted partners.

The Steward is the Guide

An AI agent purpose-built for this canon and these convictions. It generates lessons, discussion questions, and printable materials for every text.

The House is the Community

An in-person, geographically local fellowship of 2–12 families. The Symposium is its heartbeat. The House holds the human life.

VI · The Symposium

Two requirements. Everything else belongs to the family.

You do not need a written test to know whether a child has encountered the tradition. You simply listen as they give it back.

  • CLT proficiency

Twice-yearly Classic Learning Test from Grade 3. Proficiency gates advancement — and prepares students for the Classical Baccalaureate.

  • Memory work, recited

Scripture, great poems, speeches, or catechism — chosen by the family, performed before the House at the Symposium.

VIII · What makes this different

Four marks of the Academy

CLT & Classical Baccalaureate

CLT testing twice yearly from Grade 3 — accepted at 300+ colleges. The Classical Baccalaureate (Enduring Courses, Classical Seminar, thesis, civics project) is our primary credential signal.

A Steward, not a generic tutor

Trained on this canon and these convictions. Defaults to printed resources and unhurried learning. For Texas families, TEFA covers it entirely.

The House — local & real

2–12 families, in person, every parent knowing every child’s name. Houses plant new Houses as the Academy grows.

Mission & Pilgrimage

Upper-school students are encouraged to undertake pilgrimages to the great sites of Western Christian civilization — Jerusalem, Rome, Wittenberg, Geneva, Oxford — supported by the Pilgrimage Scholarship Fund.

“Most certainly it appears to me that very many in this country ought to know these things, and yet very few do.”
